PULASKI COUNTY (8-10) – Construction to widen Interstate 630 requires overnight lane
closures in Little Rock, including traffic stoppages for up to 15 minutes, according to
Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.
Weather permitting, crews will reduce I-630 traffic to one open lane in each direction
during overnight hours between Baptist Hospital Drive (Exit 7) and University Avenue
(Exit 5). Eastbound and westbound center and outside lanes will be closed during the
following hours to conduct the work.
- Sunday night, August 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Monday, August 13 to Thursday, August 16 from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., nightly
- Friday, August 17, from 9:00 p.m. to Saturday, August 18, midnight
Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels. During daytime travel peak hours, all six lanes on I-630 will be open to traffic. Neighborhoods adjacent to the interstate will experience noise impacts during nighttime hours. The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zones.
In addition, crews will be removing overhead sign structures within the work zone, which will require all lanes of traffic to be stopped on I-630 for 15-minute intervals. Weather permitting, this work will occur between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., beginning Monday night, August 13 and continuing through Friday, August 17.
This project (Job CA0608) is part of ARDOT’s Connecting Arkansas Program, which is funded through a 10-year, half-cent sales tax. Interstate 630 is being widened to four lanes in each direction (eight total) for 2.2 miles between the Big Rock Interchange and University Avenue. The widening is estimated to be complete in early 2020. More information on this $87.4 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. You can also follow us on Twitter @myARDOT
