Improvements to Highway 38 Require Closures in West Memphis

CRITTENDEN COUNTY (7-5) – Improvements to the concrete pavement on State
Highway 38 (Martin Luther King Jr. Drive) in West Memphis require lane and ramp closures,
according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

Weather permitting, the following closures will take place in relation to Martin Luther King,
Jr. Drive:

  • I-40 westbound on ramp beginning Monday, July 8; traffic will be detoured south on
    State Highway 38 and onto I-55 to later transition to I-40 westbound.
  • Northbound lanes between U.S. Highway 70 and the Interstate 55 service road
    beginning Tuesday, July 9; traffic will be detoured south on U.S. Highway 70 to the
    I-55 Service Road (E. Service Rd.) with message boards, warning signs and traffic
    drums.
  • I-40 eastbound on-ramp beginning Thursday, July 11; traffic will be detoured via the
    I-55 Service Road (S. Service Rd.) and travel north on Mound City Rd. and then onto
    I-40 with message boards, warning signs and traffic drums.



Estimated completion of the work is late July.
