Pavement and Bridge Deck Rehab Requires Lane Closures on I-540 and I-40 in Van Buren & Fort Smith

CRAWFORD & SEBASTIAN COUNTIES (9-27) – Bridge deck rehabilitation and paving
requires lane closures on both Interstate 540 and Interstate 40 in Van Buren, according to
Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

Weather permitting, the following closures will be put into place:

  • The inside northbound and southbound lanes of I-540 between Mile Marker 2 and
    Mile Marker 3 will be closed starting on Sunday night, September 29 at 8:00 p.m.
    and will remain in place until bridge deck resurfacing work is complete, which is
    estimated to take approximately 4 weeks.
  • Alternating lanes of I-40 in the eastbound direction between Mile Marker 12 and Mile
    Marker 17 will be closed for asphalt paving operations. These lane closures will be
    in place between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. nightly starting on Sunday night,
    September 29 and will continue until work is complete, which is estimated to take
    approximately 3 weeks.
  • Alternating lanes of I-40 in the westbound direction between Mile Marker 3 and Mile
    Marker 5 will be closed for bridge deck repair and sealing. These lane closures will
    be in place between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. nightly starting on Sunday night,
    September 29 and will continue until work is complete, which is estimated to take
    approximately 3 weeks.



Traffic will be controlled with signage, barricades, and traffic barrels. Drivers should exercise
caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel
