LEE COUNTY (5-28) – Emergency repairs for a bridge on Highway 259 between Highways
70 and 78 require temporary closures, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation
(ARDOT) officials.
A routine bridge inspection revealed structural deficiencies, resulting in the bridge closure.
The bridge is approximately 2.9 miles north of Highway 78 and 4.4 miles south of
Highway 70 near Wheatley. Motorists should use Highways 70 and 78 for detours until the
repairs are complete.
This bridge is part of a project that will replace this bridge in late 2021. ARDOT is considering
all possible available options to reopen the bridge in the meantime.
Traffic will be controlled by traffic barrels, signage and message boards. Drivers should
exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.
