Improvements to Southwest Drive Require Lane Closures in Jonesboro

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY (7-7) – Construction work to improve U.S. Highway 49 (Southwest
Drive) will require lane closures in southwest Jonesboro, according to Arkansas Department
of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

Weather permitting, construction crews will begin asphalt work on Southwest Drive at
4:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, between the intersection of Parker Road and Highway 226 near
Gibson. The total length of the project is six miles. This work will require intermittent lane
closures
Monday through Friday until the work is complete, which is estimated to be five
weeks.

This work is part of job number A00001, a $1.8 million contract awarded to Atlas Asphalt.
The purpose of this project is to resurface 6.0 miles of U.S. Highway 49.

Traffic will be controlled by traffic cones, flaggers, and signage. Drivers should exercise
caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel
