HOT SPRING & CLARK COUNTIES (8-14) – Improvements to the Interstate 30 bridges over
DeRoche Creek will require temporary lane closures, according to Arkansas Department of
Transportation (ARDOT) officials.
Weather permitting, crews will reduce traffic on I-30 to a single lane in each direction
between mile markers 79 and 81 (just north of Caddo Valley) starting at 8:00 a.m. on
Monday, August 17 and continuing for 10 days until work is completed. These closures will
allow crews to execute ARDOT’s first ever lateral bridge slide.
This is ARDOT’s first time using an accelerated bridge construction technique called a lateral
bridge slide. In this technique, new bridges are built adjacent to the existing bridges so traffic
can continue using the existing bridges. Once the new bridge is built, traffic is narrowed to
one lane in each direction and is shifted to one of the existing bridges. Once traffic is moved,
the old bridge is torn out and the new bridge is literally slid laterally (sideways) into the old
bridge’s place. Traffic will move fully onto the new bridge once the demolition debris is
cleared.
Traffic will be controlled by traffic cones and signage. Drivers should exercise caution when
approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information
can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. You can also follow us on Twitter
