CRAIGHEAD COUNTY (4-9) – Construction work to improve Highways 49 and 49B in Brookland mean there will be temporary lane closures, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.
Weather permitting, crews will alternatingly close a single lane on Highway 49B between the Highway 49 interchange on the south side of Brookland and extend 1.7 miles north. These closures will occur only on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., starting on Monday, April 12 and continuing for approximately one week.
After that section and weather permitting, crews will alternatingly close a single lane on
Highway 49 between Pine Log Road (County Road 762) and Clinton School Road (County Road 701). These closures will occur on weekdays and last 24 hours until the project is complete, which is estimated to be in approximately five weeks.
The work is part of a project to resurface approximately 5.2 miles of Highway 49 and 1.7 miles of Highway 49B (Job 100987), a $2,583,304.22 contract awarded to Atlas Asphalt Inc. in March of 2020.
Traffic will be controlled by traffic cones and signage. Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.
