Arkansas Department of Transportation Begins Year-Long Brick Facade Project

PULASKI COUNTY | March 12, 2025

Work to replace the aging brick facade on the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) central office building is underway. This work is estimated to take approximately one year to complete.

A Construction crew is working to remove the distressed brick facade on the central office building exterior and replace it with exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS) panels.  The EIFS panels will provide improved protection and insulation at a lower cost than a new brick facade.  This project requires temporary scaffolding, which is being erected around the perimeter of the ARDOT central office building.

In 2009, a portion of the brick facade above the main entrance was replaced due to deterioration of the brick shelf supports.  Upon completion of this work, a consultant was retained to evaluate the remaining portions of the brick facade.

Monitoring of the brick facade and the brick shelf supports, originally constructed in 1966, has identified that the condition of the brick facade has reached a point where it should be removed and replaced for safety reasons.  “The use of EIFS panels will address the safety issues, provide weather protection for the building, and provide a similar appearance without the higher cost of full brick replacement,” Steve Frisbee, ARDOT Assistant Chief Engineer of Maintenance, said.
