PULASKI COUNTY (7-20) – Construction to widen Interstate 630 requires overnight lane
closures in Little Rock, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT)
officials.
Weather permitting, crews will reduce I-630 traffic to one open lane in each direction during
overnight hours between Baptist Hospital Drive (Exit 7) and University Avenue (Exit 5).
Eastbound and westbound center and outside lanes will be closed during the following hours
to set temporary barrier walls, perform bridge demolition at the Hughes Street overpass and
remove pavement corrugations along the shoulders.
- Sunday night, July 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Monday, July 23 to Thursday, July 26 from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., nightly
- Friday, July 27, from 8:00 p.m. to Saturday, July 28, midnight
Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels. During the daytime travel peak hours, all
six lanes on I-630 will be open to traffic. Neighborhoods adjacent to the interstate will
experience noise impacts during nighttime hours. The public is advised to be cautious when
traveling in the work zones.
This project (Job CA0608) is part of ARDOT’s Connecting Arkansas Program, which is funded
through a 10-year, half-cent sales tax. Interstate 630 is being widened to four lanes in each
direction (eight total) for 2.2 miles between the Big Rock Interchange and University Avenue.
The widening is estimated to be complete in early 2020. More information on this $87.4
million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work
zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. You
