SALINE COUNTY (8-17) – Construction to widen Interstate 30 to six lanes in Saline County
requires overnight lane closures, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT)
officials. The lane closures are necessary to allow crews to work on the South Street bridge
crossing I-30 at the Sevier Street interchange.
Weather permitting, crews will be working above eastbound and westbound I-30 and the
Interstate frontage roads. Impacts to I-30 and frontage road traffic will occur
between Thursday, August 20 and Wednesday, August 26, generally from 9:00 p.m. to
6:00 a.m., excluding Friday night. The South Street bridge will maintain one lane of traffic in each
direction throughout this process except for short durations where all traffic will be stopped. A
construction traffic camera has been installed at the South Street bridge and can be viewed
at IDriveArkansas.com.
Eastbound and Westbound I-30: During impacts to I-30 traffic, the Arkansas Highway Police
(AHP) will perform slow rolls through the construction zone, and the on-ramps at Exits 114
(eastbound) and 117/118 (westbound) will temporarily be blocked until the AHP slow roll
moves past the ramp. Temporary 15-minute full-traffic stops are possible during the work.
Frontage Roads at the South Street Bridge: During closures to the westbound frontage road,
traffic will detour to West Sevier Street and then to Bell Street; for the eastbound frontage road
closures, traffic will detour to West South Street and then to Leander Street to return to I-30
eastbound.
The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zone and watch for slower traffic
speeds. Areas adjacent to the interstate may experience noise impacts during nighttime hours.
This project (Job CA0601) is part of ARDOT’s Connecting Arkansas Program and includes
widening 5.5 miles of Interstate 30 to three lanes in each direction, from the interchange with
U.S. Highway 70 (Exit 111) to Sevier Street in Benton (Exit 116). The project also includes
improvements at the Highway 67 interchange (Exit 114). More information on this $187.3
million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work
zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. You can
