LITTLE ROCK | July 18, 2023
The last of the four statewide ‘Tip of the CAP’ celebrations will be held in Little Rock to showcase the 31 Connecting Arkansas Program (CAP) projects made possible by the half-cent sales tax revenue dedicated to road and bridge projects.
Arkansas Highway Commissioners will join state and local officials for the central Arkansas ‘Tip of the CAP’ event Tuesday, July 25 from 5-7 p.m. at 42 Bar & Table, Clinton Presidential Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.
“Thanks to the support of the Arkansas State Legislature and Arkansas voters, the last 10 years have generated over $1.8 billion, funding 31 projects and 200 miles of roadway and bridge improvements,” said ARDOT Director Lorie Tudor. “We are excited to celebrate these projects and highlight the progress made in improving travel safety and promoting Arkansas’ job growth and economy.”
In 2012, Arkansas voters approved a constitutional amendment establishing a temporary 10-year, half-cent sales tax for road and bridge improvements. This resulted in the Connecting Arkansas Program (CAP) – one of the largest highway construction programs undertaken by the Arkansas Department of Transportation.
The CAP comprised 31 projects across the state were pledged to be completed or underway within the next 10 years. ARDOT made good on that promise and is now “tipping its CAP” to all those who helped make these infrastructure improvements possible.
Previous Tip of the CAP celebrations took place in El Dorado (celebrating projects in south Arkansas), Jonesboro (celebrating projects in northeast Arkansas), and Bentonville (celebrating projects in northwest Arkansas). The final Tip of the CAP in Little Rock will celebrate nine projects completed or underway in central Arkansas.
