PULASKI COUNTY (7-18) – Work to widen Interstate 630 will require a three-month
closure of the Hughes Street overpass in Little Rock, according to Arkansas Department of
Transportation (ARDOT) officials.
Weather permitting, the Hughes Street overpass will be closed Friday, July 20 at 6:00 a.m.
through late October to remove the structure and reconstruct the bridge. Detours will
direct Hughes Street traffic to Mississippi Avenue to bypass the closure. Barricades will be
in place on either side of the overpass, and the bike path will be closed to the public.
Neighborhoods adjacent to the interstate will experience noise impacts during the overpass
demolition and reconstruction during daytime and nighttime hours.
A construction traffic camera has been installed at the Hughes Street overpass and can be
viewed at IDriveArkansas.com.
This project (Job CA0608) is part of ARDOT’s Connecting Arkansas Program, which is funded
through a 10-year, half-cent sales tax. Interstate 630 is being widened to four lanes in each
direction (eight total) for 2.2 miles between the Big Rock Interchange and University Avenue.
The widening is estimated to be complete in early 2020. More information on this $87.4
million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
