LITTLE ROCK (9-4) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock anticipates
Tropical Storm Gordon will impact Arkansas weather and the Arkansas Department of
Transportation (ARDOT) is preparing for the impact that might have on State Highways.
ARDOT crews are taking steps to prepare for responding to any hazards the weather may
cause by checking equipment for readiness and availability, clearing local drainage of any
debris, fueling and servicing vehicles and equipment, and coordinating with local officials.
The NWS says that if the storm continues on a Northwest track that Arkansas may see heavy
rainfall start as early as Wednesday night. Some parts of Arkansas could see anywhere
between 3 to 6 inches of rain from Wednesday through Sunday with a moderate risk of this
rainfall being excessive. You can follow NWS Little Rock on Twitter @NWSLittleRock.
Additionally, the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) has many
resources on preparing for flooding hazards, including ways to protect both family and
property, listed on their website Ready.gov/floods and other resources on their website
ADEM.Arkansas.gov. You can follow ADEM on Twitter @AR_Emergencies.
ARDOT encourages drivers to be cautious and always find an alternate route if their primary
route appears to be unsafe. If you find water moving or pooled on the highway, please
remember to “Turn Around. Don’t Drown.”, a message endorsed by NWS, ADEM and ARDOT.
