Routine Maintenance Work Requires Alternating Lane Closures on I-540 Arkansas River Bridge

SEBASTIAN AND CRAWFORD COUNTIES (1-8) – Routine maintenance work on the
Interstate 540 Bridge over the Arkansas River will require alternating lane closures between
Fort Smith and Van Buren, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT)
officials.

Weather permitting; crews will conduct routine maintenance on the I-540 Arkansas River
Bridge between Fort Smith and Van Buren. This work will require alternating lane closures
of the Northbound lanes, starting in the outside lanes and moving to the inside lanes as work
is completed. Lane closures will be in place Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to
4:00 p.m.,
starting on Wednesday, January 9 and continuing until complete. This work is
expected to require two weeks to complete.

Traffic will be controlled with signage and traffic barrels. Drivers should exercise caution
when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel
