PULASKI COUNTY (10-16) – The Broadway Bridge (Highway 70) that connects Little Rock and
North Little Rock will be designated as the Veterans Memorial Bridge at a sign unveiling
ceremony, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.
The sign unveiling ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the parking
lot of the Dickey Stevens Park near Riverfront Park Drive in North Little Rock.
The original Broadway Bridge cost $971,000 to build in 1922 and was dedicated to veterans of
World War I in 1923. After 90 years of useful service it was closed to traffic on September 28,
2016, and decommissioned.
The new bridge was built by Kansas City-based Massman Construction Co. to the tune of $98.4
million and was reopened to traffic on March 1, 2017 at 9:30 p.m. The new Veterans Memorial
Bridge was officially dedicated in honor of all veterans on April 6, 2017.
The Arkansas Veterans Coalition of Little Rock, North Little Rock, and ARDOT worked together
to rename the Broadway Bridge to the Veterans Memorial Bridge and now welcome you to join
them for the sign unveiling celebration.
As recommended by health officials, ARDOT is engaging in mitigation measures, to include social
distancing and wearing masks, to help combat the spread of COVID-19 in Arkansas. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. You can also follow us on Twitter @myARDOT.
