Advance Notice: 6th Street Bridge Opening Requires Traffic Pattern Change in Little Rock

PULASKI COUNTY | February 16, 2023

Opening the reconstructed 6th Street bridge over Interstate 30 in Little Rock will require significant traffic pattern changes. This includes limiting use of the bridge, closing the off-ramp to 9th Street, and opening an off-ramp to 6th Street.

Weather permitting, the 6th Street bridge will open to I-30 westbound exit ramp traffic in early March. As part of the 30 Crossing project, crews will temporarily close access to the 6th Street bridge from the frontage roads as well as Collins and Ferry streets.
See traffic pattern and detour maps NR 23-034-A and NR 23-034-B for additional details.

The following traffic pattern changes are included in this bridge opening:

  • When taking the new 6th Street off-ramp (Exit 140), I-30 westbound traffic can choose to continue onto the southbound frontage road or take the Texas U-Turn across the 6th Street bridge to access downtown Little Rock
  • Southbound frontage road traffic can turn west on 6th Street or continue southbound on the frontage road; traffic will not have access to the 6th Street bridge
  • Northbound frontage road traffic can turn east on 6th Street or continue northbound on the frontage road; traffic will not have access to the 6th Street bridge

This traffic pattern is expected to stay in place through the summer of 2024.

After closing the bridge in April 2022, contractor Kiewit Massman Construction met its aggressive schedule to demolish and reconstruct the bridge in 11 months.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. A long-term and permanent travel impact interactive map is available at 30Crossing.com, along with additional project information.
