PERRY COUNTY | June 23, 2025 | Job 080676
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) will host a Location and Design Public Hearing in Bigelow from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24 to discuss the proposed design plans and environmental assessment for the proposed improvements to Highway 60, west of the Arkansas River, in Perry County.
The hearing will be held at Today’s Family Church (Gym), 123 Highway 113, Bigelow, Arkansas 72016.
The purpose of this project is to raise the grade of Highway 60 and construct a relief bridge to minimize roadway closures during major flood events. Two previous public meetings have been held for this project in April 2024 and July 2024.
In consideration of public feedback and coordination with local officials, design changes have been made to avoid a full closure of the Arkansas River bridge. This was done by adjusting the roadway’s slope requirements, which eliminated the need to elevate the bridge. Additionally, temporary signals will be used to manage alternating one-way traffic on the bridge. Other design changes include an improved connection to Ferry Boat Road.
